Kim McCallum

Dr. Kim started her passion for veterinary medicine during her time in the Yukon, where she was training sled dogs. She would be regularly asked by friends how the musher would treat various ailments dogs could get and she realized she really enjoyed helping people help their dogs. Thus started her wild journey into healing and compassion for all animals!

During her training at the Atlantic Veterinary College and a subsequent medicine-surgery internship at the Ontario Veterinary College she realized that she could make the greatest difference supporting people when their pets were ill or hurt.  Emergency medicine and critical care have thus become her pursuits. These times are stressful for pet owners and guiding people through these difficult times is where her strength lies.  She has been able to support folks and their pets during these traumatic times in HRM, but also in Ontario and a short stint in Alaska.

Being a veterinarian isn’t always playing with puppies and kittens, although Dr. Kim truly enjoys a good puppy kiss (especially if it’s a Golden Retriever) and a playful kitten nibble any day. There are unexpected times when our pets may become seriously ill or hurt. When under Dr. Kim’s care, be rest assured she will be your pet’s advocate, working tirelessly to help them in any way possible.

When not helping pet families, Dr Kim enjoys spending time at her sea-side home in Sambro.  She shares this beautiful space with her family, and spends her free time creating new living spaces, trail running with her dogs, and cuddling with her cats.
