Neurology Services at Maritime
The Department of Neurology and Neurosurgery investigates, diagnoses, and treats the spectrum of neurological conditions and diseases. The diagnostic process may include advanced neuroimaging such as Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) (Coming soon!) or Computed Tomography (CT) (Coming soon!), cerebrospinal fluid tap and analysis, electrodiagnostics (electroencephalography, electromyography, brainstem evoked response test), and nerve/muscle biopsies.

Medical neurological conditions include seizures, meningoencephalitis (immune-mediated, or infectious etiologies), encephalopathy, neuropathies, cerebrovascular accidents, movement disorders, ataxia, head tilt, vertigo, Degenerative Myelopathy and cognitive decline.
Neurological conditions that may require surgery include conditions that cause neck/back pain; intervertebral disk disease; congenital malformations (e.g. Chiari-like Malformation, hydrocephalus); tumor resection; head trauma; spinal stabilization; subarachnoid cyst, and tethered-cord syndrome.
Our department works closely with the physiotherapy department which helps our patients with water-treadmill therapy, strength and balance training, and Transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS). Treatment with chronic pain can be alleviated with laser therapy, deep massage therapy, and acupuncture.
The Department is active in research in the following programs:
Fenbendazole Study

Primary Secretory Otitis Media in Cavalier King Charles Spaniels
