Dr. Barry MacEachern
Dr. Barry MacEachern may be best known as “Dr. Barry” from his time on the popular TV show “Hope For Wildlife”, which allowed him to share his passion for animals with a large audience. However, from an early age, he always wanted to be a veterinarian and would often try to save any animal he came across. Growing up on a small hobby farm in Cape Breton, surrounded by cows, sheep, and horses Dr. Barry spent his childhood saving little birds and animals. He pursued his dream and graduated from the Atlantic Veterinary College in 1998 and initially wanted to pursue large animal practice. However, after getting his first "pet" dog while in vet school, he realized his passion for dogs and cats and shifted his focus to small animal medicine.
After three years working in Thunder Bay, Ontario, Dr. Barry worked as an emergency and general practitioner in Nova Scotia, gaining experience and building a loyal client base. In 2014, Dr. Barry opened his own veterinary practice, Burnside Veterinary Hospital, which quickly became a trusted and respected clinic in the area. He even had his own TV show, "Doctor Barry," where he showcased his expertise and love for animals. In 2022, Dr. Barry sold his practice but remains actively involved in improving pet care in Nova Scotia. He and his husband (who were married on an episode of “Hope For Wildlife”) have 2 dogs, 3 horses and multiple chickens. When not riding and showing horses, Dr. Barry can be found in the garden or walking in the Nova Scotia woods.
